When it comes to online shooters you usually get the standart modes: Capture the flag, Deathmatch and maybe, just maybe, some more tactical content such as objectives and team assault operations.

Behemoth (Human controlled)

One of the outstanding few is "Savage", a now free to download game that is best described as "Online real time strategy shooter".

A "beast" Base

In this game you can choose to play on the Beast or Human side - each one of them with special units and abilites. The new part about it is, that one player takes the part of the commander. He sees the game from above and plays it exactly like any other real time strategy game. The other players take the "units" part and play in a Ego/third person perspective. Its their part to gather ressources (and level their char on the way!) or kill enemy players/buildings. The commander uses those ressources to build unit upgrades and expand the base - good teamwork between Commander and Units is therefore essential.

These mechanics are not exactly new, as the Half Life 1 Mod "Natural Selection" introduced those game mechanics a few years ago (this time with Space Marines VS Aliens). But Savage has a few things in its favor, that makes it worthwhile for a few rounds.
