Most of us are familiar with the concept of Tower Defense (TD) games, be it from Starcraft or Warcraft 3. The premise of the fun time wasters can be easily summarized: You are given a path upon which monsters walk from a spawning point to an exit, and must build stationary towers around this path in order to prevent them from reaching the goal. What sounds overly simple is actually great fun, and you'll get into it the easiest if you give one of the following a try; they're all flash-based, so you can run them from any browser that features the plugin.
Desktop Tower Defense

The most promising and captivating of them all must be Desktop Tower Defense. It includes all things that make TD games a success: Several board layouts, difficulty levels and a rich variety of towers to promote strategy and experimentation. It also features Fun modes which grant you a set amount of money or provide selective creature spawns. The graphics and sounds are very cute, but if you play it at the office, make sure to turn the latter off.

Flash Circle TD
circletd.jpg Ported from the famous Circle TD map comes Flash Circle TD,in which you have to keep the number of creep spawns in the center to a minimum or you'll lose. Instead of the traditional A-to-B track, critters run in a circle and are pelted by your towers, only to be followed by stronger and faster ones.

Flash Elemental TD

Another fun one, especially for fans of the Warcraft map Elemental TD, is the flash version of it ported down to every last detail, even the interest you earn from having spare money left over and the tech trees with each of the four elements. It uses graphics and sounds from Warcraft 3, so it's a fun little game to sneak in while you're pretending to do more serious things.

Well, here's enough to keep you busy during lunch break; if you google for Tower Defense Flash, you'll find a couple more, though they didn't strike me as long-lasting and entertaining as the ones featured here. Enjoy!
